Engraving on paper of sanguine from a set of four temperaments, engraved and published by Raphael Sadeler (1560/61-1628/32) after a design Maarten de Vos (1532-1603) in Antwerp between 1580 and 1620. Sanguine is traditionally associated with the element of air and the season of spring. Flora, the personification of spring, sits with a young man in front of a pergola. In the background, couples embrace by a fountain and dance near a river. The three associated zodiac symbols are: Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. Four lines of verse in Latin below.
