Engraving on paper of God cursing Cain for the murder of Abel from a series of Old Testament sinners, engraved and published by Raphael Sadeler (1560/61-1628/32) after a design Maarten de Vos (1532-1603) probably in Antwerp in 1583. Latin verse below is based on Genesis 4. God appears to Cain and condemns him for the murder of his brother. The murder weapon, a donkey’s jawbone, is visible in the foreground. On the left Adam and Eve discover the body of their son. On the right, smoke rises from the two offerings. God has been cut from upper left corner of this print.
